We often take for granted that restaurants provide food that is safe for us to eat. However, with only slightly dipping food hygiene standards can a case of food poisoning occur. Food poising is almost entirely preventable, and so if a restaurant or take away has failed in this duty of care to you, they may be liable. Following a staggering 24 cases of food poisoning experienced by customers of The Sutton Arms in Darlington Road, Elton, the pub’s owner, Michael Alan Flegg has today appeared in Teesside Magistrates’ Court where he admitted nine counts of food hygiene offences. Flegg, aged 68 is now awaiting sentencing as magistrates agreed that due to the seriousness of the offences, sentencing should be decided by Teesside Crown Court. Shellfish toxin warning for Scottish town

Fife council has issued a health warning – advising members of the public not to eat clams and mussels from two areas of Fife (Anstruther and Pittenweem). High levels of toxins have been found in the shellfish, which could be potentially dangerous to people’s health. Fife council discovered this issue when carrying out their routine sampling. The shellfish found evidence of Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP), in the surf clams from Anstruther and Pittenweem.
